I’ve just worked out that the magnitude 9.5 Chile earthquake in 1960 - the largest quake ever recorded - shifted a fault the size of the entire UK - by up 50 metres. That area is mind blowing & explains why the rupture accounts for nearly 1/4 of all quake energy since 1900
